Field notes
Three ideas we work by.
Short answers to questions that shape better marketing decisions.
Why does content need a destination?
Attention is not the finish line. A useful post, ad or video earns the right to send someone somewhere, but the next page has to answer their questions and make the intended action clear.
If the objective is an enquiry, the destination should make the offer, proof and next step easy to understand. If the objective is a booking, the journey needs to reduce uncertainty before the booking engine asks for a decision.
Is a booking engine enough?
A booking engine processes a reservation. It does not create demand, explain why the offer fits a traveler, or build confidence before the payment screen.
For tourism businesses, the work before booking matters: search visibility, the right landing page, useful information, credible reviews and a clear path to compare options. The booking engine is part of the system, not the whole system.
What should we measure?
Start with the business objective. Track qualified enquiries, booking starts and confirmed bookings where possible. Then use traffic, search terms, click-through rate and engagement to explain what is helping or holding the journey back.
Reach and likes may show distribution. They do not prove revenue. A useful report separates what happened from what it likely means, then identifies the next decision to test.
